The SM fiber only transmits the main mode, that is, the light only transmits along the axis of the fiber, which completely avoids the dispersion and the waste of optical energy. So if only G.652 is specified, it means the performance specification of G.652A, which should be paid special attention to. At the same time, as G.652D is the latest index of SM fiber, it is the most stringent index of all G.652 levels and is fully downward compatible. The main parameters of 1310nm SM fiber are determined by ITU-T in G652 proposal, so this kind of fiber is also called G.652 fiber.Īs mentioned above, due to the absorption of OH, there are optical loss peaks in the range of 900nm ~ 1300nm and 1340nm ~ 1520nm, which are called water peaks. And it is also the main working wavelength of practical optical communication system. Therefore, 1310nm wavelength region has become an ideal working window. From the optical loss characteristics of an optical fiber, 1310nm is just a low loss window. It is found that the total dispersion of the single-mode fiber is zero at 1310nm. That is, the spectral width should be narrow and with better stability. As a result, single mode fiber has higher requirements for the spectral width and stability of the light source. Therefore, the intermodal dispersion is very small, which is suitable for remote communication.īut there are also material dispersion and waveguide dispersion. SM fiber has a very thin core, and only one mode of light can be transmitted. Table 1: Application of multimode optical cable Fiber Optical Cable SM Cable Transmission distance of 10 Gigabit Ethernet (M) Transmission distance of Gigabit Ethernet(M) Therefore, these 2 ranges are not fully utilized. Loss tends to increase with a wavelength of 1650nm and above.īecause the absorption of OHˉ (water peak), there are optical loss peak in the range of 900nm ~ 1300nm and 1340nm ~ 1520nm. While 1550nm has a generally 0.20dB/km optical loss, which is the lowest loss of optical fiber. The loss at 850nm is generally 2.5dB/km, at 1310nm is generally 0.35dB/km. Optical loss of fiber is generally reduced with the increase of wavelength. Working WavelengthĪt present, the mostly working wavelengths of fiber are 850nm, 1310nm and 1550nm. The diameter of the core of single mode fiber is 9μm, outer diameter of cladding is 125μm. So, a multimode optical fiber is often described as 50/125μm or 62.5/125μm. The core diameter of multimode fiber is 50 or 62.5μm, and it has an outer 125μm cladding. Keep reading to know them once for all! Optical Fiberįiber can be divided into single mode and multimode according to the mode of optical transmission. So, what’s their differences, and which one to choose when I need a fiber optic cable? HOC (Hone Optical Communications) has 19+ years of experience on optical communication and ODN. We all know there are single mode (SM) and multimode (MM) for optical fiber. Playing a Follower with the Explore verb to wander the city means that Follower and Explore are both locked off for 60 seconds. The challenge of Cultist Simulator is that each action and most cards have a countdown associated with them. There are cards that can only be used in one area, but each time I encountered that situation it made sense to me why that was the case. That doesn’t only apply to character cards Tools, Followers, and Lore Fragments all have numerous amounts of uses. That character can be used with Talk for them to give you work contracts, Study for them to teach you a skill, or you can Explore a specific location with them to open up side objectives. Meeting a character while exploring will add their character card to the deck. The various uses a card can have with those six verbs is quite impressive. Eventually, six verbs will open up in total. As that character's story opens up, so will the amount of verbs a card can be used with. A doctor will randomly remember a patient who was talking about worlds beyond view, or an inheritance will include strange journals or diaries. Their day job also sets up how their interest in the unknown is piqued. This sets up the day job for the chosen character, which is the primary way to earn Funds. The first verb for every character is Work. These consist of various verbs like Dream, Work, Explore, or Talk. You move the cards in your deck to action slots. There were times when I wouldn’t know how to move the focus to certain cards with the buttons, so I would use the cursor to select them manually. The easiest way I found was by mixing the button layout with seldom use of the cursor. Weather Factory developed three ways to move your deck around: a button layout, a joystick controlled cursor, and touch controls. It first released on PC with a very intuitive way to move cards around (keyboard and mouse), but the Switch doesn’t really have that. Playing Cultist Simulator centers around moving cards. On the way to enlightenment, there will be investigators to handle, rival cults to stamp out, and many treasures to find. Cultist Simulator is a single-player digital board game filled with mystery, experimentation, and self-destruction. He permits Chris Tucker to ad-lib unfunny jokes.Ī: It is not well-plotted. Q: What are the other awful things that he does?Ī: He uses jokey musical cues frequently. The overall effect is of something being made for television, not the cinema. I assume because he is in film only for the money, and not for the love of the art.Ī: He uses a consistent style that tends to make the action sequences less interesting, by reducing them to short takes which almost all use the same medium-length shots that do not give us a good sense of the physical location of the fight, or of the fighters' relationships to each other, and the frequent cutting tends to make the fights seem much choppier and less fluid. Q: Are Chan's comic martial arts skills as virtuosic as they have been elsewhere in his career?Ī: Chan is now over 50 years old, and he is no longer capable of performing such elaborate and dangerous stunts as he once did.Ī: I don't know. Q: Is the poorly-enunciated English meant to be comic? Q: What is the manner of Jackie Chan's acting style?Ī: A combination of poorly-enunciated English and comic martial arts. Q: What does Rush Hour 3 prove about $25 million?Ī: It proves that $25 million does not buy a good, or even bearable performance. Q:What is the manner of Chris Tucker's acting style in terms of his recitation of dialogue, his physical movement, and his nonverbal expression of emotion? A: It is the third film in a series telling of the unlikely pairing of LAPD detective James Carter and Hong Kong inspector Lee. Perhaps with the success of this and - one may only hope - Assassin's Creed, things will begin to change. It shows both the direction of cinema and TV blending together (and perhaps with games) and the fear of well established cinema actors getting caught in unsuccessful game adaptations. The only predominantly big screen actor out there was Ben Foster. Actors came from all kinds of TV series, Vikings, Preacher and Legends of Tomorrow to name a few. The only problem one could have is that it's just the first part in many, with the main conflict point resolved, but none for the character story lines. Characters were well developed, graphics were good, the script had few holes and the mature story was clearly well smoothed out. A half human, half orc girl is instrumental in providing information about who the Orcs are, what they want and how they have reached the kingdom. It pits the peaceful kingdom of Azeroth vs the war clans of the unknown Orc, fleeing from their dying world through a portal fueled by the very thing that destroyed it. In game, it is the story of Warcraft I, which was another bold move, considering the hordes (heh heh heh) of World of Warcraft players that weren't even born when that game was published. The story is something placed at the end of chapter III of the mythos and the beginning of chapter IV. Yet the movie exceeded all my expectations and gave me hope for the future. There was the already established Warcraft mythos and stories, there was the terrible stigma of game adaptations and finally there was the matter of so many main CGI characters that had to look realistic, not like something Pixar or Disney designed. There were several constraints that the movie had to work with. Generally, their yields are only slightly lower than those of CDs, but there's no limitation on when you can pull your money out. One alternative to CDs that you might consider for short-term needs are high-yield savings accounts like those offered by Ally, Marcus and other online banks. You might also be stuck with a lower interest rate than the prevailing rate if you lock in to a rate when you establish the CD, then the economy changes and rates rise nationally. Perhaps the greatest disadvantage is that you cannot access your money in an emergency, at least without penalty, if you've saved it in a CD. So it's a good idea to shop around and find one that pays on the higher end of the spectrum. According to the data we compile from about 200 CD-issuing institutions across the country, the top certificates pay three or four times more than the industry average for products of the same duration, and sometimes even eight to ten times more. Just look for the FDIC or NCUA logo.ĭepository institutions set their own interest rates for CDs, and those rates can differ dramatically from one bank or credit union to another. It's always a good idea to check that the bank or credit union offers this protection. This means that deposits up to $250,000 are secure, even if the institution itself falls into financial trouble. Almost all bank certificates are protected by FDIC insurance, while those offered by credit unions are typically guaranteed by the NCUA. Virtually all CDs are offered by federally insured banks or credit unions. Although 6-month CDs (and even 9-month certificates) don't tie up your money for very long, they also don't offer the kind of yields you would find with a longer maturity. In general, the longer the duration of the CD, the higher the rate of interest the financial institution is willing to offer. Information is also provided on how to easily join the credit union for credit union CDs.Ĭertificates of deposit (CDs) are financial products that provide a fixed rate of interest on your deposit as long as you leave your money with the bank or credit union for a specified period of time.ĬDs come in maturities as short as three months and as long as ten years. Department of Commerce Federal Credit Union – 5.23% APYĭetailed information on these top-paying, nationally available 6-month CDs is provided, including specifics about minimum deposits and early withdrawal penalties.Great River Federal Credit Union – 5.33% APY.Mountain America Credit Union – 5.50% APY.Then, if there's still a tie, the institutions are listed alphabetically. In cases where more than one institution pays the same top rate, we've prioritized CDs by the shortest term, then the CD requiring a smaller minimum deposit. Those requiring a minimum deposit of up to $25,000 are eligible for our list. We've ranked the highest-paying CDs with approximately 6-month terms (includes terms from 5 to 9 months) by drawing on the most current rate data from about 200 banks and credit unions that offer certificate products nationwide. CampbeltownĬampbeltown juts out toward Ireland from mainland Scotland it’s a peninsula sandwiched between Islay to the west and the Lowlands to the east. This simplicity lends the region to provide the base to many blends, though a few distilleries have been kicking out some peated options recently. Traditionally, Lowland Scotch was triple distilled using unpeated malt for a light, simple sweetness. Large in land but small in output, the Lowlands is home to only a handful of distilleries, with Auchentoshan and Glenkinchie being the most well-known. But in general, the north brings rich body and sweetness the west brings rich body and peatiness the south brings delicate drams with light body and the east brings similar lightness with a touch more fruit. The flavors of the Highlands are too diverse to pin down with a single broad stroke the region is so big that it’s home to distilleries that represent the entire flavor spectrum. Some consider the Islands (and distilleries like Arran) as their own unofficial region. Under the official Scotch Whisky Association guidelines, the Highlands region is made up of all Scottish islands (except Islay) and the mainland of northern Scotland (except Speyside). Because of this, Scotches from the region make great entry-level offerings. The region falls on the opposite side of the flavor spectrum (and map) from the peatiness of Islay. It’s home to the highest number of distilleries in Scotland, with well over 60 at present, including Glenfiddich, the world’s best-selling single malt Scotch. Speysideīisected from north to south by the River Spey, Speyside is a little pocket of land in the northeast of Scotland, surrounded on three sides by the Highlands and the North Sea. Expect peaty drams of some of the best whisky in the world. So, despite its small size, the area carries an outsized distilling resume, with heavies like Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg residing there. Islay is a small island that’s believed to have played a major role in distilling crossing the sea from Ireland to Scotland in the 13th century. Blended Scotch Whiskyīlended Scotch whisky is a blend of single-malt Scotch whiskies and single-grain Scotch whiskies distilled at multiple distilleries. Blended Grain Scotch Whiskyīlended-grain Scotch is made by blending single-grain Scotch whiskies from two or more distilleries. To be considered a single-grain Scotch whisky, the juice must be made at one distillery from a single grain - like corn or wheat - and it can be malted or unmalted. To be considered a blended malt Scotch whisky, it must be made up of two or more single malt Scotch whiskies from multiple distilleries. Single malt Scotch is made from a mash bill comprising 100 percent malted barley and produced in a single distillery. When referring to Scotch, use the term "whisky" and not "whiskey." Types of Scotch Whisky Single Malt Scotch Whisky Scotch can only be called "Scotch" when it's made in Scotland in the same way that wine can only be called "Champagne" when made in the area of the same name. The spirit is made from water and malted barley or other malted grains and aged for a minimum of three years in oak barrels. Scotch whisky is produced in one of the five areas in Scotland. These are the best bottles of Scotch whisky you can buy. Whatever your tastes, we've got a recommendation. Meanwhile, distilleries from the Highlands, the largest region in Scotland, take cues from each of the other regions. Speyside, to the east, with distilleries like The Macallan or The Balvenie, is known for whiskies with a delicate richness that doesn’t rely on peat - so, expect a lot of sherry and rum casks for aging. Whiskies from the Lowlands (like those from Auchentoshan and Glenkinchie) tend to be light and delicate. In general, bottles coming from Islay, such as Laphroaig and Ardbeg, are the smokiest. While every distillery is unique, there are unofficial “regional styles” that can help cut out some of the noise when browsing a liquor store. Novices should start by exploring the regions of Scotland.įor starters, there are five Scotch regions: Speyside, Highlands, Islay, Lowlands and Campbeltown. From there, it’s easy to move along those two spectrums to find bottles you like. We recommend thinking of each bottle of Scotch as falling somewhere along two spectrums: from light to rich delicate to smoky. Peated or unpeated? Sherry-cask aged, ex-bourbon cask aged or some combination of the two? The tweaks and variations that go into each bottle of Scotch are intimidating, especially for bourbon and rye drinkers who may not be accustomed to the price of a whiskey that’s been aged for 18 years or more. Just as it was with Bane, I had to fight with the Plague as my ally against Demons and a bunch of neutral floating skull enemies. I was close to the area of the Plague Horseman, so I took the chance to get one more fortress key. Basically, almost nothing in the game can do enough damage to me fast enough to kill me. I’m now attacking several times per second, with a chance to heal myself or do 500 extra damage to an enemy with every hit. “Champion of Bartonia” also increases my attack speed by 50%, just like the Winds of the Desert do, so now I was attacking at an insane rate. The final duel was a bit difficult, since like me, the enemy hero had an item that has a chance to heal the user, but eventually, my superior stats won. I played through the chain of arena battles and soon, the final bonus and the champion title was mine. I went back and realized that one of the replayable missions wasn’t actually replayable. Bartonia was an in-game location, part of the human areas, but for some reason, I skipped it. I had one more look at my list of bonuses and realized the last one was called “Champion of Bartonia”. I did get the Mythril Vein, though, which gives 10 extra armor to my hero. This place, according to the in-game description, used to belong to the Dwarves, so I was hoping the replayable missions here would help me get back on their good side, but even after several repetitions, it just wasn’t happening. One of the artifacts was found soon after, at Khaz-Barak. I did the same here and suddenly, I was only two actual artifacts (and two fortress keys) short of a full set of bonuses. I then finally got to the area with a mix of Plague, Orc and Dark Elf presence, where I got the Cureall Stone with my first Archmage hero. This give 30 Exp to every Gryphon I train, so they’re basically worthless. After that, I moved on further south to the Orc lands, where I mostly fought goblins, but not before going through White Mountains, where I got one more artifact – The Gryphon Eggs. The Heart of Zhur now makes my hero completely immune to poison. I wandered onto an Undead island, where I got one more artifact during a chain of three missions. The problem was, I couldn’t find any missions, regular or repeatable, which would help me with that goal. I can understand the Dark Elves, but I don’t remember fighting Dwarves that often. For some reason, I made them and the Dark Elves my enemy. I moved on and got to the dwarven lands, where my intention was to somehow make them like me again. I’ve spent a lot of time here and I don’t think it was worth it.īeating the five battles provided me with an alliance with the Empire, but that was about it, so it didn’t feel worth it. A comedian will present a situation followed by an unexpected interpretation that is also apt. He says that while there is no single format for jokes, many revolve around a sudden and surprising conceptual shift. Graeme Ritchie, a computational linguist in Edinburgh, studies the linguistic structure of jokes in order to understand not only humour but language understanding and reasoning in machines. But most modern humour theorists have settled on some version of Aristotle's belief that jokes are based on a reaction to or resolution of incongruity, when the punchline is either a nonsense or, though appearing silly, has a clever second meaning. Kant and Freud felt that joke-telling relies on building up a psychic tension which is safely punctured by the ludicrousness of the punchline. Plato expressed the idea that humour is simply a delighted feeling of superiority over others. Theories about humour have an ancient pedigree. The writer Arthur Koestler dubbed it the luxury reflex: 'unique in that it serves no apparent biological purpose'. Laughter has always struck people as deeply mysterious, perhaps pointless. 'Which side of a dog has the most hair? The outside.' Hah! The punchline is silly yet fitting, tempting a smile, even a laugh. The joke comes over the headphones: 'Which side of a dog has the most hair? The left.' No, not funny. What's so funny?
